The Thrills of being a New Yorker...

... must say that I had the perfect weekend ...

I started it by spiritual detox - yoga on Friday evening - no alcohol - a healthy home-cooked meal and 10 hours of sleep - Sat - the sun was gleaming over my city and I decided to pay my salutations with an hour of om (that's what I call my yoga class) - now that I had paid my dues to the spiritual gods - I was free to indulge in homo- sapionic activities - so I shopped the rest of the afternoon - and picked a restaurant I had never heard of for dinner.

My friend and I gulped a pitcher of Sangria as we waited our table at Cafecito in the East Village - it was a typical New York joint - exposed brick walls - adjacent tables within 2 inches of each other and completely packed. Me being me obviously ordered what sounded like the most complicated dish - result being that it took a while for our food to arrive - on my right was a couple on a date and on my left were 3 guys (all room-mates) - since we were all almost stuck together - we started chatting with both the left and the right side. Both tables on either side had made smart decisions and so got their food in good time - the couple on my left then says - "Do you want to try this (the appetizer) - it's really good" - I was flattered and embarrased at the same time - I mean who does that ? ask your random neighbor to share your food - so I graciously declined thinking it's too rude to eat from someone else's plate. A few minutes later - we start chatting with the guys on our left and they say - "Do you want to try this? The shrimp is REALLY good" - this time I was too tempted and of course I took a big bite out of their shrimp dish ... and it was yummy as hell!

Now correct me if I'm wrong - but I've been told time and time again how rude and unfriendly east coasters (especially New Yorkers) are - well - I've lived in 3 different cities in the mid-west and I beg to differ because this has NEVER happened to me anywhere else ...

actually NYokers are only considered rude for their impoliteness, not so much for their unfriendliness. So you are absolutely right, I have never thought of them as unfriendly nor have I met anyone who thinks of them as unfriendly.
But those rich people from the South or the Europeans who love culture and sip tea with their pinkies pointed at a 90 degree angle might tell you that NYokers are rude.
